Essential Oils and Babies

As a mom to 4 kiddos, a doula, childbirth educator and a YL educator, I think it is very important that we educate ourselves when using essential oils on children. Do you have a resource book especially for children? I highly recommend going on www.discoverlsp.com and getting one if not. 🙂

Using Essential Oils on Babies and Kids

Here are some highlights on using essential oils on children to get you started!

Most Common Oils Used for Babies:
Lavender
Melaleuca Alternifolia (aka Tea Tree Oil)
Roman Chamomile
German Chamomile
Sandalwood
Marjoram
Frankincense
Lemon
Citrus Fresh (a blended oil)
Purification

Proper Dilution
Dilute 1-2 drops of the oil in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil

Frequency
For general immune support, just 1-2 times a day or less is good. I’ve even found that when I use oils right after we’ve been somewhere where I think they’ve picked up germs, they stay well with just 1-2 applications afterwards.

When their immune systems need more support, I apply the oils 2-4 times a day. Essential oils metabolize in the body in 2 1/2 to 3 hours, so you can technically apply that often.

My Favorite Carrier Oils
Young Living’s V-6 oil (a combo of 6 vegetable oils, including fractionated coconut and jojoba, two of my favs!)
Fractionated coconut oil
Sweet Almond Oil
Grapeseed Oil

Common Oil Uses for Babies
Note: Roman Chamomile is gentler than German, so it is best suited for newborns and infants.
